European Solar Award 2025

Awarded for sustainability

On October 17, Director Peter Bircher had the honor of receiving the European Solar Award 2025 from Eurosolar in Düsseldorf. The “Remise,” the new building at the valley station, was recognized for its well-thought-out energy concept and innovative solar architecture.

The award acknowledges our commitment to sustainable energy, climate-friendly tourism, and future-oriented construction methods. It highlights our approach to combining energy efficiency, solar power production, and environmentally conscious building practices.

The “Remise” is the first plus-energy administration building in the canton of Nidwalden and produces more energy than it consumes. At the heart of the energy concept is a ring trench collector, which is installed under the tracks and supplies over 80 percent of the heating energy. While this technology is common in Austria, it is still rare in Switzerland. The decision to adopt this innovative solution around three years ago therefore required both courage and conviction.

In our video, you can see how the “Remise” functions as a plus-energy building, how the ring trench collector works, and how solar power is used efficiently.
