Easing of the fire ban
The rainfall over the past few days has slightly reduced the risk of forest fires in the cantons of Obwalden and Nidwalden. The Obwalden Nidwalden Fire Inspectorate has therefore downgraded the risk level from “high” to “considerable” (level 3 out of 5). As a result, the absolute ban on fires in and near forests, as well as the general ban on fireworks, can be lifted. Our barbecue areas are therefore open again with immediate effect.
Continued caution when lighting fires
Fires in forests and outdoors may only be lit in designated, permanently installed fire pits. Fire pits must always be supervised and completely extinguished before leaving. Fires should be avoided in strong winds. Cigarettes and matches must not be discarded carelessly. The Obwalden Nidwalden Fire Inspectorate and the responsible cantonal authorities will continue to monitor the situation. If dry conditions worsen again, the fire danger level will be adjusted accordingly.
