True pioneering spirit and a desire for superlatives were evident time and again. The first electricity-powered railway was the Stanserhorn railway. Back then, it was also the steepest funicular railway and the first funicular railway without a rack. And on top of that, the only one that led to the summit in three sections.
The first Annual General Meeting was held in May and construction of the Stanserhorn railway began in June.
Opening of the Stanserhorn railway from Stans up the Stanserhorn and Hotel Stanserhorn Kulm on August 23, 1893. Built by mountain railway pioneers Franz Josef Bucher-Durrer and Josef Durrer-Gasser.
With a luminous intensity of 22,000 normal candles, the electric Stanserhorn floodlight shone from the mountain to the valley.
An aircraft accident occurred on May 24, 1934. Having taken off in Dübendorf, DH 5 No. 452 crashed on the Stanserhorn.
Due to a short circuit in the Bluematt, the hotel on the Stanserhorn and the drive of the third section were destroyed, together with the floodlight unit, during the night of the fire on October 2/3. The Stanserhorn changed from a hotel to a restaurant.
The Kälti-Bluematt-Stanserhorn funicular railway ceased operating on September 1.
The Kälti-Stanserhorn aerial cableway commenced operations and was inaugurated in May 1975. It shone in a bright red.
Toni Businger, a world-famous artist with links to Stans, painted the cableway cabins with colorful alpine flowers on a yellow background. A new floodlight was procured to mark the 100th anniversary of the Stanserhorn railway.

In an accident between a truck and carriage 2 of the funicular, the wooden structure was destroyed and then rebuilt.

The offices were extended with a modern annex behind the historic valley station.
The nightly light from the Stanserhorn remains a tradition to this day. The electric floodlight with the “power of 22,000 ordinary candles” was originally installed in 1895 by Franz Josef Bucher-Durrer, owner of the Kulm Hotel, to advertise his mountain – tourism advertising in the 19th century.
On the occasion of the annual OldtimAIR flight parade, rare classic aircraft fly at eye level around the summit of the Stanserhorn: the DC-3 in the Swissair look of the 1940s is present almost every year, with the Fieseler Storch, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning and the Beech 18 N45CF, a true Hollywood legend.
